The Rottentomatoes web site was started by Alexandria Horyski from Canada and Rosemarie Rounce from London. It was inspired by Scottish actor Gerard Butler and his possible involvement in a future film role of Robert Burns whom he has always wanted to portray. This pairing has led to a petition to make the film happen. It also inspired this poetry competition. The web site can be visited at www.rottentomatoes.com I offered to post the winners of the RT Burns Poetry Competition on my site. Sandra is a Scot living in Canada and planning to come to Scotland for the homecoming in 2009. She is also a songwriter and although she and Rose cannot enter the competition, as this was their idea, I have included poems from them. Rose also has her own site at In addition to this, the Rottentomatoes site has chosen "Trees for Life" as its official charity. This is a worthy cause and already thousands of pounds have been raised and trees have been bought and planted helping to regenerate the great Caledonian Forest of the Scottish Highlands. Gerard's Grove and the Phantom Phorest are already under way. Since there really were no losers I will post a poem from everyone who entered. Thanks to all who bared their soul, added a bit of spice, caused a tear to fall or generally ran the gamut of emotion. There were over 80 poems submitted and my personal thanks go to each and every one of the contributors. In a few cases I have made slight changes to the submitted text. If the authors are not happy with these alterations would they please email me and I will return the poem to its original text. Poems submitted from Alexandria, Rosemarie, Andrew and Janet. |
