I feel that all the hard work put in by Alexandria and Rose deserves a special mention. The way to do that is to feature a poem from them. Andrew McDiarmid of simplyscottish.com also submitted a poem but did not want to be included in the list of prizewinners. Lastly Janet who is working so hard with the script Robert Burns, His life, his loves, his Soul, his Country has been given a special mention.
So, firstly the poem from Alexandria.
There Once Was A Dream, A Dream That Was Burns
Once there was a dream that was Burns and you could only say it in a whisper
To hope and pray that one day a dream could come true and could be realized
The distant Ancient Highlands would say his name in a whisper and send it along on the north wind, Burns, Burns, Burns
Can you hear the name from within the distant fog and spread about the moors
It is a name that history has written within her book with tears of forbidden love that is for sure
Love and hate we are told indeed go hand in hand, throughout the ages of time they both indeed span
Burns is indeed a legend, a myth and is truly more than a mortal man
His words of love, passion have tested time itself, more than he could have ever planned
He takes his rightful place as a romantic and can be said he was a realist, far beyond his given time
His words of passion make you dig down within your heart and soul, you say with a gentle whisper, I wish him to be mine
Many a fair maiden have fallen under his spell, how many through the years, it is hard to tell
The promise of true love and devotion pulls at your very soul and is part of the very magic of the spell
Without his words and touch your body feels like a distant empty shell
So as you drift through the years remember as it nears your time to pass, there once was a dream, a dream that was Burns and it has been realized
Naughty Rose sent this bawdy poem which I hope you all enjoy
O Gerard!
O Gerard! Yer a big braw lad!
To see ye agen, I am sae glad
Yer a real welcome sicht
This cold, dark winter's nicht
Let yer Rose warm ye up, a wee tad!
O Gerard! Ye strike a fine pose
Gie a big kiss t'yer bonnie lass, Rose
Come, sit on this Globe Tavern Bench
Wi' yer lusty, blonde buxom wench
An' I'll let ye pit yer hands on both of those!
O Gerard! I luve sittin' on yer knee!
Can I hae a wee drop o' yer whisky?
Nou what's that 'neath yer kilt
I'm startin' to feel move up an' tilt?
O Gerard! yer raisin' mair than that glass, t'me!
Next up is Andrew McDiarmid's call to Scotland
If No The Now, Then Whan?
Och, if no the now, then whan?
If no the fore-end o this new millennium, whan?
Hae we nae mynd o Wallace's dreams?
Wid we rather sit back than break open the seams?
A tear haes been shed for aw that hae died,
and nou there are rivers that flow through wir laund,
wir laund, they died for, just like thay wrote,
'not for riches, nor honor, but freedom alane!'
Can we no stap giein them time oot wir days,
and pay some heed to wir ane nation's ways,
lets tak back wir laund and tak back wir tongue,
and speak like we mean it whan we teach wir young,
Scotland's no juist a pairt o a modern scheme,
she's a nation that's prood o the places she's been,
she can staund on her ain and on her ain she will staund,
wi' the air of being free flowing all through her laund.
Scotia! Alba! Thay say rise up and be a nation again,
Ye ne'er stopped bein ane...
but thay need tellin' again.
Janet, aka Morganathered, sent this in for Gerard.
Through the Spans of Time
Through the spans of time I search for you
The blue of your eyes beg me look
Once my heart was pierced through
And my heart was what you took
The pang of love within me swells
No other can ease this pain
Still, in my mind, our passion dwells
I only need your love, to gain
Once in human form you were to me
Now in a portrait is all I see
Alas, my love, return to me
Or death upon my door shall be
Through the spans of time I search for you
I beg you to return
To all others, I bid adieu
Only for you, my soul does yearn
